La Mirada Theatre – April 19, 2026

This is another one I got during Theater Week for super cheap – like $22.50. The last show we saw at La Mirada was Superbowl Sunday and traffic was non-existent. For this Sunday evening show, traffic was still pretty okay. I think it took me 40 minutes to get there and 35 minutes to get home. There’s plenty of free parking at La Mirada, but I would suggest pulling through a spot so you can just pull forward to leave, rather than trying to back out of a spot. This time we ended up chatting at the car long enough that the parking lot was empty by the time we left. Also, there were a lot of empty seats in the theater, so that meant a lot of empty spots in the parking lot too. With my TodayTix tickets, I bought a section rather than specific seats so we didn’t know exactly where we were sitting until I picked up my tickets at will call. The seats turned out to be fine – it’s a small theater, you are unlikely to end up with bad seats. They also had a fun step and repeat set up in the lobby, which we skipped this time because the line was very long.

I had seen this show once before when it came through on a National Tour. This production was not a national tour, but was part of the “Broadway Series at La Mirada Theatre” produced by McCoy Rigby. Let’s call it strong regional. It’s a mostly Equity show with just a couple of ensemblists being non-Equity, so you know the talent is there. It was well staged and well choreographed. The singing voices were all there. Still it wasn’t quite as good as the national tour I saw a few years ago. I had a hard time believing these actors were high school students. The heartthrob had a lisp, which bothered me far more than it should have. All in all, still a fun evening though and certainly a lot better than the movie – I mean the musical movie from 2024, not the original with Lindsay Lohan. The Lindsay Lohan movie is great.
